Bhutan Festival Calendar

Indulge yourself in the Fascinating World of Bhutanese Festivals(Tshechus)

Tshechu is a festival in Bhutan where mask dances are performed in different Districts/Dzongkhags at different times of the year. Mask dances were introduced in the 7th century by the great spiritual master Guru Padmasamba. During that era, Guru used to perform these mask dances mainly to subdue the demons who brought threat to Buddhism. Therefore, during this time of the year, people go to witness the mask dances and also to pay tribute to Guru and other spiritual masters who flourished and protected Buddhism in Bhutan. However, there is also a belief that if we witness these mask dances when we are alive then when we die, our souls will meet them at the intermediate state which will help us on our spiritual journey.

Come let’s be a part of these Festivals to mingle with the locals, witness the mask dances along with the mesmerizing cultural dances, and accumulate blessings as they do. Please check out the Festival dates provided beneath to match your dates.
